How To Post A Super Long Photo On Instagram

Instagram is a platform that thrives on creativity and innovation. One trend that has been making waves is the posting of extra-long images.

This guide will walk you through the process of posting a really long photo on Instagram.

The trend of posting long photos started trending on May 7th, and influencers have been quick to adopt it.

This new format is a fun twist that can break the regular Instagram feed and wow your followers.

However, be careful not to spam your followers with too many of these posts.

Before we dive into the steps, it’s important to note a few exceptions:

  • Images that are too long may not work or may appear all black.
  • Images may also get cut off and appear pixelated.
  • This isn’t quite a chance to post a full-res scan of a beautiful banner you made.

Steps to Post a Long Photo on Instagram

  1. Create or Save an Extra-Long Image: The first step is to create or save an extra-long image that you want to post on Instagram. The image should be in a vertical format to fit Instagram’s feed layout.
  2. Resize the Image: Go to Simple Image Resizer and upload your image. Set the image size to 30×600. This will stretch your image to the desired length. Once done, download the resized image.
  3. Post the Image on Instagram: Open Instagram’s photo picker and select the resized image. The app seems to be failing to properly crop these extra-long images, which allows you to post them in their full length.

Examples of Long Instagram Posts

To give you an idea of what these posts look like, here are a couple of examples:

  • Mr. Poopy Butthole from Rick and Morty: This post features a long image of Mr. Poopy Butthole with the caption, “Ooooooo Weeeeeee”. You can view the post here.
  • Slim Jim: Slim Jim posted a long image with the caption, “G is as strong as it is long. GangGang”. You can view the post here.

My Take

Posting a long photo on Instagram is a creative way to engage your followers and stand out from the crowd.

However, it’s important to use this feature sparingly to avoid overwhelming your followers.

Note: As of the time of writing, this feature appears to be a glitch and is only available on iOS. It’s unclear whether Instagram will officially support this feature in the future.
